Hillarys Homepage

Method: Preference testing alongside a survey

Turnaround time: 5 days

One research method I have used in the past is preference testing combined with a survey. This form of testing is great for gaining quick insights at a lower cost that full usability testing.

The Hillarys homepage had started to loose it’s way a little so to kick start a project where we could look at the benefits of I redesign I went about setting up a survey / preference test for the old vs the new page.

The Hillarys site attracts more than 100,000 visitors each week – and for many users, is one of their first interactions with the brand. The goal with the redesign was to help modernise the homepage, showcase the evolution of the Hillarys brand and improve the overall page conversion rate.

  • 72% of participants felt the new design was more modern

  • 59% of participants said they would prefer to purchase from the new design rather than the old

  • 70% of participants understood the service compared to 42% in the old design

‍After learning the above through the survey we then went on to A/B test. We used these collected insights and analytics to finalise the design, ensuring we kept the strong hero messaging around the value for customers and Hillarys core service proposition.

My work with Hillarys’ is based on a continual cycle of iteration and improvement.

"I recognise HUMVEE just because that's what my shorts were, but I don't know what that defines… I don't think I would shop by collections, they kind of mean nothing unless you work at Endura"

Endura website

Method: Remote usability testing with 10 participants & Card sort

Turnaround time: 8 days (excluding recruitment time)

Endura approached CodeComputer love to help focus the output of previous research they had conducted with a different agency.

They were struggling to know where to start with all the changes that were needed on their site. They also had the issue of using a CMS that could not be adapted so the brief was to work with the components that already existed.

From analysis of the previous research it was clear that the navigation and filters where what was letting the site down. We decided the best next steps would be to perform usability testing which focused in on these two areas.

During the usability testing we also ran a remote card sort to help users prioritise the types of filters they would find most useful.

This piece of work help Endura to focus their roadmap for 2024 and make the changes on site that would have the most impact.

AQA

Method: Stakeholder interviews, User interviews, User testing and Focus group

AQA approached CodeComputerLove to help us to create a clear vision for their website that matched user needs and the organisational ambitions. We compiled a research programme that would allow us to create a clear view of the expertise, guidance and support that customers needed and what we needed to do to service them.

We left no stone unturned and adapted our research methods based on what we were looking to learn and who we were talking to.

When talking to teachers we wanted to created an open and honest environment so ran a focus group where we dug deeper into the challenges they face around the exam period.

The outcome of this project was clear plan on how a flexible site could be created which meets customers needs, can be future proof in its structure and can be easily maintained.
